Personal profile

Iona works in the area of speech and language therapy, specifically in the field of motor speech disorders and gender affirming voice. Her research interests are communication and social capital in Parkinson’s disease: social participation, social activity, social networks and social anxiety. She is also interested in: community driven resources for gender-affirming voice, and the discourse of speech and language therapy. She teaches motor speech disorders, cognitive psychology, and research methods and the constructs of evidence. She works in collaboration with theatre-trained professionals to deliver workshops for gender-affirming voice development.
